Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has confirmed that The Addicks have offered a new contract to coveted midfielder Joe Aribo, speaking to the club’s official website, as Rangers and Celtic allegedly compete to bring the soon-to-be free agent to Glasgow.

22-year-old who was once called a ‘young Patrick Vieira’ by former Charlton boss Karl Robinson, Aribo has enjoyed a stellar campaign as Charlton sealed a return to the Championship by beating Sunderland in the play-off final.

The Sun reports that Aston Villa are interested in signing the 10-goal midfielder on a free transfer while Rangers, Celtic and Southampton are also keeping tabs on his situation, according to the Independent.

But Charlton have not given up hope in keeping Aribo at The Valley and Bowyer admits that the club have offered him, as well as Jake Forster-Caskey, Patrick Bauer and Tariqe Fosu, fresh terms.

“We’ve offered them a contract, they’ll either accept or decline, all we can do is offer contracts. The four of them are up, they’re the four we’ve chosen to offer contracts to,” said the former Leeds and Newcastle midfielder.

The Sun claims that Celtic’s interim coach Neil Lennon has scouted Aribo ever since he returned to Parkhead in February. And he is expected to step up his interest in the young midfielder if, or when, he is handed the job on a full-time basis.
