Leeds United rested heavily on Pablo Hernandez for creativity last season though Charlton Athletic’s Ricky Holmes could at least ease the burden.

Leeds United fans won’t want to be reminded that the club’s failure to enhance their attacking options in January came back to bite them at the end of the season.

After all, it’s always a dangerous game to be so over-reliant on just one or two players in the final third. And while Chris Wood’s purple patch continued right until the final day in May, playmaker Pablo Hernandez’s alarming dip in form contributed heavily to a disastrous April characterised by four league defeats.

The Spaniard set up eight goals for The Whites in 2016/17 and, in a difficult second half of the season, no one stepped up to the plate to take the pressure off the former Swansea City favourite.

Though at least it seems that Leeds United are keen to ensure history does not repeat itself. Kent Live claims that the Yorkshire giants could throw their hat into the ring for Charlton Athletic talisman Ricky Holmes this summer.

At Holm at Elland Road?

Sheffields United and Wednesday, as well as Cardiff City, have all been credited with an interest in The Addicks’ Player of the Year in recent weeks. And though Charlton are desperate for Holmes to stay, offering him a new contract with his current deal expiring next summer, they may be fighting a losing battle.

After all, the prospect of trying his hand in the Championship should appeal to a player who has spent the entirety of his career in the lower leagues with the likes of Barnet, Portsmouth and Northampton Town.

The 29-year-old scored 13 goals and produced six assists in the most impressive season of his career in 2016/17 and certainly deserves his chance at a higher level.

Whether he can be the player to ease the creative burden on Hernandez, however, remains to be seen. Yet, Leeds’ interest in Holmes is simply elementary.
