Charlie Wyke will have delighted Sunderland fans after posting an update on his long-term knee injury on Instagram this week, in which he declares he will be back very soon.

The 25-year-old target man, who joined Sunderland after scoring 16 goals and nine assists for Bradford City last summer, suffered a knee injury in the 2-1 loss to Burton Albion back in September.

He had managed just four appearances for the Black Cats, scoring once against Oxford United in a 1-1 draw. After a shaky start to the season, Jack Ross has got his players firing. They currently sit in second with a game in hand.

But there is more good news for Sunderland fans. Wyke posted on Instagram on Monday to inform supporters that he will be returning to action sooner rather than later, captioning: “All clear off the specialist, not long now.” (Sunderland Echo).

Jerome Sinclair and Josh Maja have deputised in Wyke’s absence, with the latter scoring nine goals in 18 games. The likes of Chris Maguire, Aiden McGeady and others have also chipped in.

Wyke is not the only player close to returning from injury, after Duncan Watmore turned out in a training game for the Black Cats. He has been out for more than a year, after suffering a second anterior cruciate ligament injury.

But he is due back soon, as is Wyke which will give manager Ross all the fire power required to push his side towards an instant return to the Championship.
