Charlie Woods won’t be playing in the US Open, but he could still make an appearance at Shinnecock Hills.

Tiger Woods’ son recently qualified for the US Junior Amateur in a playoff, and he’s played his part in US Open qualifying for Shinnecock Hills too.

He won on the bag for his friend, 17-year-old Miles Russel, who looked to secure his spot at Shinnecock during golf’s longest day. Russel played his qualifying round at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens and qualified for the US Open.

After qualifying, Russel said whether he expects to have Woods on the back at Shinnecock Hills in just over a week’s time.

Charlie Woods could caddie for Miles Russel at the US Open

Russel was one of the four players to qualify for the US Open at BallenIsles, as he posted a score of six-under par.

After his performance, he said what it was like to have Woods on his bag to guide him through the day.

He said, “Yeah it was awesome. We kept it so light. It’s the first time I’ve had a buddy on the bag instead of a real caddie, and I really liked it. You know, just walking down the fairway and not talking much golf, just having a fun time. It was super special.”

And their partnership might not be over just yet! Russel said there’s a place for Woods on his bag at the US Open if he wants it. When asked if Woods will caddie for him at Shinnecock, he responded, “We’ll see what he’s doing.”

He might not be playing (yet), but it would be incredible to see Woods at the US Open, on the bag for one of golf’s most promising young talents.

Miles Russel broke Tiger Woods’ record at 15 years old

This is a massive step in the promising career of Russel, who already broke one of Tiger Woods’ records as an amateur.

At 15 years old, he became the youngest player to ever win the AJGA Player of the Year Award, breaking Woods’ old record.

Russel is currently the 10th-ranked amateur golfer in the world. He won the junior invitational bag in March and the junior Players Championship last year, two of his seven amateur victories.

But this is likely the biggest result of his career so far, and he heads to Shinnecock hoping to raise some eyebrows with Charlie Woods on the bag.
