Leeds United fans have been shocked and appalled by the news that Charlie Taylor refused to play for the club on the last day of the season.

Leeds manager Garry Monk revealed after his side’s 1-1 draw at already relegated Wigan Athletic that the left-back told him he would not take to the field.

With Taylor out of contract this summer it has been apparent for some time that he would be leaving Elland Road, with West Bromwich Albion his most likely destination after the Telegraph reported they have had talks with the defender.

While disappointed to see one of their homegrown academy players leave the club, because the 23-year-old is under the age of 24 a fee that West Brom will have to pay the Lily Whites will be decided by a tribunal and most fans would probably not begrudge a player wanting to test themselves in the Premier League.

However, the way Taylor has conducted himself has left a sour taste in the mouth among the Leeds faithful and not only that, may have made Baggies boss Tony Pulis question the full-back’s character.

There is no doubt that the defender will find a new team this summer, but he should have played one last time for the club that established his name rather than burning all bridges and tainting his reputation to all future managers in the process.
