Charlie Taylor is on his way out of Leeds United.
Charlie Taylor celebrates
Leeds United ace Charlie Taylor has gone from hero to zero after refusing to play at the weekend.
The away game at Wigan could have been his last ever game for the club, and instead of signing off on a high and waving an emotional farewell to fans, the defender’s actions have served to tarnish his image.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Head coach Garry Monk told BBC Radio Leeds after the game that Taylor had been ‘terribly advised’, and blamed his inexperience on his controversial choice of action.
This had been coming, with Taylor handing in a transfer request last summer, yet given the way he put the club’s rejection of his demands aside to play throughout the reason, it was not unreasonable to expect him to continue for just one more game.
His controversial decision shows how differently he feels to this time last year. 12 months ago after the 2015/16 season ended he was hailing the club’s fans. This time around there was no message.
Taylor is expected to make a move to the Premier League, leaving Leeds behind.
The Whites are determined to go on and win promotion one day, and if their paths cross with Taylor again, instead of a respectful reception, the left-back’s refusal to play for the club means he will become a figure of derision for supporters who simply now feel ‘good riddance’.
