Berardi has performed admirably in Taylor’s Leeds absence.
Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor
Charlie Taylor has commented on the form of Gaetano Berardi as the left-back awaits his Leeds United return.
Taylor has missed the Whites’ last 14 league and cup matches, of which Berardi, a natural right-back, has deputised in all but one.
Such is the Swiss international’s form, Taylor is unlikely to go straight into Garry Monk’s side having returned to contention – a scenario of which the 23-year-old is acutely aware.
“Obviously I’ve got no right to come straight back into the team,” he told Leeds’ official website. “Gaetano Berardi has done a fantastic job, not in his natural position and he has made it look easy, he has played left-back better than I could ever play right-back.
“I’ve got no complaints, I just have to fight, wait and be patient for my chance now and hopefully the lads keep on doing well.”
Taylor, a product of Leeds’ Thorp Arch academy, is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and there is little sign of a new deal being agreed before then.
A number of Premier League sides have been linked with moves for the former England Under-19 international, who believes a transfer to Liverpool is possible, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Leeds’ Gaetano Berardi in action
Berardi’s displays, however, have reduced Leeds’ need to sign a replacement, with another local talent, Tyler Denton also impressing when called upon this season.
