Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of Southend United youngster Charlie Sayers – and he has been backed by Stan Collymore.

Tottenham want to bring through talent and are prepared to sign youngsters from other clubs.

Troy Parrott, Alfie Devine and Kion Etete are just some of the exciting talents signed in recent years.

Sayers is the latest addition, landing a permanent deal after impressing on trial.

Who is Tottenham new boy Charlie Sayers?

Sayers, 17, has been coming up through the Southend ranks.

Tottenham recently took Sayers on trial, and he featured in a 3-0 Under-18 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham were still impressed enough, handing the defender a full-time contract.

Sayers had played six league games for Southend before his move to Tottenham. The teenager featured at centre back, left back and even on the left of midfield.

Collymore reacts to Sayers move

Former Premier League striker Stan Collymore currently serves as Southend’s Senior Football Strategist.

Collymore took to Twitter to state that, in his honest opinion, Sayers is a left-sided centre back rather than a left back.

Collymore added that Sayers is ‘physically impressive’ with a ‘great attitude’, hoping that he succeeds at Tottenham.
