The Reds have travelled for their upcoming Champions League game as Jurgen Klopp and his Anfield charges seek a second win in a row in the tournament.

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has called on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to leave Mohamed Salah out of the Champions League clash against Genk tomorrow (Sky Sports News).

The Egypt international missed Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United after suffering an ankle injury against Leicester City before the international break.

Klopp said that Salah had not been able to train with the squad in the lead up to Sunday’s draw at Old Trafford (Liverpool website) but he is now in line to feature at the Luminus Arena in Belgium after travelling with the Anfield squad.

Nonetheless, Nicholas thinks that the 27-year-old should not be utilised against Genk – the former Arsenal man believes he should be rested for the Premier League game against Tottenham at Anfield this Sunday.

“These are always potentially difficult,” Nicholas said about the Genk fixture on Sky Sports News. “Jurgen Klopp does not have much chance to change things too much. If Mohamed Salah is close to being fit, I would leave him out and get him fit for the Tottenham game, which is another massive match.”

Defensive duo Trent Alexander-Arnold – who along with Salah was one of seven Liverpool players named on the Ballon d’Or shortlist – and Joel Matip remain at home with illness and a sore knee respectively.

Liverpool are second in Group E with three points from two games.
