Things have not been going well for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino at the Tottenham Hotspur Arena this season so far.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has given his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League trip to Brighton this weekend, claiming that Spurs are “there for the taking” and suggesting that the Seagulls will be able to cause problems for Mauricio Pochettino’s side (Sky Sports News).
Tottenham have been far from their best so far this term, drawing two and losing two of their seven league fixtures so far, putting them a huge 10 points behind pacesetters Liverpool.
In addition, they’ve been knocked out of the League Cup by League Two Colchester United on penalties, and arguably worst of all, they were on the receiving end of a 7-2 home hammering by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Tottenham also have let several leads slip this season, including against Arsenal and away at Olympiacos in their opening Champions League group-stage game – and that’s before getting to the various off-the-pitch rumours of unrest behind the scenes.
Even though Brighton are not pulling up any trees at present, sitting 16th in the Premier League table, Nicholas believes that Graham Potter’s charges can make the most of the lack of togetherness within the Spurs team to “squeeze” a victory.
“What do we say about Tottenham? They produced a battling performance with 10 men against Southampton, but they are struggling, and Bayern ruthlessly picked them apart,” Nicholas wrote on Sky Sports News.
“Brighton on the other hand, if Leandro Trossard is fit, could cause problems. Unfortunately for Graham Potter, the results have not been overly impressive at Brighton. New managers do take time, but they can cause Spurs problems. Tottenham are there for the taking at the minute – there is no togetherness and Brighton could squeeze them in this.”
