Everton are currently sixth in the table after nine games.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Charlie Nicholas has claimed that the major problem with Everton is that they do not mix up their play.
The Blues had enjoyed a strong start to the season under new manager Ronald Koeman, picking up 13 points from their first five games and sitting second in the table.
Since then things have turned around, though, and they are currently four games without a win in the league.
Last weekend saw them beaten by Burnley at Turf Moor, despite enjoying 65% of the possession and registering 21 shots in total.
The major issue was their failure to put away their chances but Nicholas believes it is their inability to mix up their play that is a problem.
“Do you know what they don’t have? Midfield runners who go beyond Lukaku,” he told Sky Sports.
“They all play in front of him. They make loads of chances but they have to open it up and get options in their team. They don’t mix the game up enough.”
The Blues will be determined to turn around their current run of form, starting with a win over West Ham United.
They host Slaven Bilic’s side at Goodison Park on Sunday and will be confident of getting a result given that the Hammers have only picked up one win in their last five visits to Merseyside.
To do so they will have to offer something different to what they have recently and perhaps changing things up as Nicholas suggests is the answer.
