Charlie Nicholas has suggested to Sky Sports that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers may have an advantage over Celtic at Celtic Park.

Ibrox club Rangers will take on Old Firm rivals Celtic away from home at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Former Celtic forward Nicholas, who had two different spells at the Hoops and won the league title twice with the Glasgow giants, has suggested an advantage Gerrard may have over Brendan Rodgers’s side in the Old Firm derby this afternoon.

Nicholas told Sky Sports: “Stevie Gerrard knows the inside of the intrigue of Brendan Rodgers.

“How does he create space? How does he get the midfield triangle working? Most people think that’s where the game will be won and lost.”

Knowledge of Brendan Rodgers

Gerrard worked under current Celtic manager Rodgers at Liverpool, and one suspects that the former England international midfielder will have an insight into how he works.

That is an advantage, but one suspects that Rodgers will be aware of that as well – and the former Swansea City manager would well decide to throw Rangers a curveball this afternoon.

The key in today’s Old Firm derby could be the opening 15 minutes and which team dominate proceedings in the middle of the park.
