Doucoure has been in excellent form this season, and Everton or Arsenal could be keen this summer.
Soccer Saturday pundit Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports website that Everton and Arsenal should consider a move to sign Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure this summer.
Nicholas, along with the likes of Paul Merson, Phil Thompson and Matt Le Tissier were asked to pick each club’s Player of the Season, and the former Arsenal midfielder picked Frenchman Doucoure at Watford.
Despite being a holding midfielder and known best for his intricate array of passing in the middle of the park, Doucoure has managed to add an impressive goal return of seven strikes and four assists this term.
The Sun claimed earlier this year that Tottenham Hotspur were lining up a £50m double swoop for Doucoure and Richarlison, but Nicholas believes Everton or Arsenal should look to sign the midfielder.
“It has to be Abdoulaye Doucoure by a distance,” Nicholas said, when asked who Watford’s Player of the Season has been. “Even watching them lose to Spurs last Monday, his energy and movement stood out.
“I’m not a big holding midfield fan but he could easily do that and more for Arsenal with the way he covers the ground. Everton will surely be looking to snap him up as well.”
Doucoure joined Watford from Rennes for £9.5million in the 2016 January transfer window but immediately joined Granada on loan until the end of the 2015-16 season.
Since then, he has made 62 appearances for the Hornets but his form this season has made his 2016-17 form a shadow of the quality and footballing intelligence he now boasts.
The France Under-21 international has two years remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road, ahead of what is likely to be an interesting summer window for the powerful midfielder.
