The Tottenham Hotspur boss has been criticised by the Sky Sports pundit for rotating the Spurs full-backs in recent weeks.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has hit out at Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino for his “worrying” decision-making, citing the example of the Argentine rotating the Spurs full-backs in recent games (Sky Sports News).
Tottenham duo Serge Aurier and Danny Rose lined up against Liverpool and both struggled to deal with opposite numbers Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson at Anfield, the latter giving away a penalty for a foul on Sadio Mane which led to Mo Salah scoring the winning goal from the spot.
Against Everton, Ben Davies lined up at left-back, with Aurier on the right, while against Red Star, the full-backs were Rose and Juan Foyth, and Nicholas believes that Pochettino’s tinkering has “disrupted something which was so solid for three seasons” at Spurs.
“Tottenham could have snatched a point at Anfield – they got themselves in the lead at Everton and threw it away,” the pundit wrote on Sky Sports News. “Mauricio Pochettino’s decision-making is quite worrying for the Tottenham players. He likes to rotate the full-backs but Serge Aurier is not playing well, while Danny Rose is all over the place. He has disrupted something which was so solid for three seasons at Tottenham.”
When it came to predicting how Spurs would do against Sheffield United this weekend, Nicholas opted for a 1-1 draw, adding: “Harry Kane should be fit but if not, where do they go up front? Sheffield United battered Burnley and they played superbly. They squeeze together, drop off together, and this style of football upsets the rhythm of the bigger teams. I expect them to unsettle Tottenham and this will be reflected in the result.”
Tottenham are winless in four Premier League games, having last had a longer run earlier this year (5 games in February/March), while Sheffield United have lost just one away league game in 2019 (Sky Sports News).
