Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette will go up against the team he nearly signed for this week.

The Gunners paid £52.7 million to sign Lacazette from Lyon last summer, but only after his move to Atletico Madrid collapsed.

Lacazette had agreed a move to Atletico before they were slapped with a six month transfer ban.

SkySports pundit and ex-Gunner Charlie Nicholas says Lacazette is probably still wishing he had made the move instead of to Arsenal.

He said: “Alexandre Lacazette has found himself some scoring form but he’s probably still thinking he wishes his move to Atletico Madrid had gone through in the summer.”

Lacazette was frustrated after the move collapsed and told ESPN at the time he was going to consider sitting on the sidelines for six months and waiting for Atletico’s ban to be lifted.

Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal shoots and misses during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on February 10, 2018 in London, England.

He is in good form at present, scoring six in his last six games in all competitions including a brave at the weekend.

Lacazette has found himself competing with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack although he is not eligible for the Europa League.

He has scored 15 goals this season for the Gunners in total this campaign.

Atletico currently sit second in La Liga and will qualify for next year’s Champions League regardless, while Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League and are dependent on winning the Europa League.
