The ex-Arsenal man has removed Manchester United in favour of Spurs.
Charlie Nicholas – Arsenal
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has revised his initial top four prediction to include Tottenham Hotspur.
Nicholas, a former Arsenal player, previously tipped his old side to finish runners-up to Manchester City, with Manchester United and Liverpool finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
But having seen City comprehensively beaten by Spurs on Sunday, which in turn lifted Mauricio Pochettino’s team to within a point of the league leaders in second, the Scot has experienced a change of heart.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
“I’ve changed my mind on Spurs, who do look like a top-four side. Reassessing the situation now, I would probably go Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs in fourth,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“Mauricio Pochettino’s side have crashed the idea Man City were marching to the title. Every system is vulnerable and Tottenham showed you can still play on the front foot against Guardiola’s team.”
Spurs finished third last season, having been pipped into second place by Arsenal on the season’s final day.
Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele in action with Sunderland’s Didier Ndong
It is a common perception that the Lilywhites’ downfall was sparked by the absence of key men Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli during the latter stages of the campaign.
However, the north Londoners worked hard to address their lack of depth during the summer transfer window, with Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Vincent Janssen adding to Pochettino’s options.
Despite a bright start, United have won just won and lost two of their last four league games, dropping to sixth in the standings.
