Rangers chairman Dave King has come under quite some criticism at Ibrox.

Rangers majority share holder Dave King is seen during the Betfred League Cup Semi Final between Rangers and Motherwell at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Former Celtic midfielder Charlie Nicholas has questioned the future of Rangers chairman Dave King on Sky Sports by suggesting the 62-year-old will no longer be at Ibrox beyond the summer.

Doubts remain over the future of manager Graeme Murty in the Ibrox dugout as he remains in charge only until the end of the season, though he could be given the job on a full-time basis.

That will be helped no end if the Gers can knock Celtic out of the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon as the Old Firm rivals meet at Hampden Park in the semi-final.

But Nicholas, who played for Celtic during two spells totalling in nine years at Parkhead, reckons King could even leave himself before the end of the season. He believes that the focus should be on sorting what’s going on upstairs, rather than the manager.

“I don’t know how seriously they take Dave King, but I’ll be surprised if he is there next season,” Nicholas said. “He’s got issues trying to buy the football club but he’s not turned up or responded with that money.

“If I was a Rangers fan, which I’m obviously not, I would be worried about sorting that out rather than wondering who the next manager will be. It’s not as exciting a job as it once was at Rangers because there are still issues upstairs.”

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Murty has guided the Gers into second place in the Scottish Premiership, as his business in the transfer window and overall effect on the atmosphere at Ibrox have helped close the gap.

But King’s comments earlier in the week about making: “the best appointment we can make and that we move forward rapidly,” suggest that Murty may not get the job on a full-time basis.

There has been no speculation as to whether King will remain as chairman or indeed step down.
