Glasgow Rangers won their first EL game at Ibrox and now Steven Gerrard and co will hope to make it two from two away from home.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has given his prediction of Glasgow Rangers against Young Boys in the Europa League as Steven Gerrard seeks to bring another three European points to Ibrox this week (Sky Sports News).
Rangers have bounced back nicely from their Old Firm derby setback as they’ve since been unstoppable domestically and in Europe, their first Europa League group game of the season seeing Feyenoord beaten 1-0 at Ibrox last month.
Up next for Gerrard and co is the trip to Switzerland to take on a team which is missing eight first-team regulars Vincent Sierro, Roger Assale, Moumi Ngamaleu, Mohamed Ali Camara, Sandro Lauper, Christopher Martins, Marvin Spielmann and Miralem Sulejmani ahead of Thursday’s game (Daily Record).
Nicholas warned Rangers not to expect as much of the ball as they usually claim in the Scottish Premiership and cups, but he feels that the players are now fully taking Gerrard’s points on board and are in a good place, predicting a 1-1 draw against a side which he deems able to claim big scalps from time to time.
“Young Boys have always been a team that can take a scalp or two,” he wrote on Sky Sports News. “Rangers have responded well to their tame performance against Celtic a few weeks back. It was a statement of intent at the weekend as they hammered Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. Steven Gerrard’s players are taking his points on board. He wants to play with speed, aggression – how he played.
“Rangers are not a bad side but they will only be getting 45-50 per cent of the ball as opposed to the 70 per cent they get in Scotland. Rangers are in a good place and this result would mean an amazing start for them in the competition.”
