Charlie Nicholas has written in his Daily Express column that Rangers manager Michael Beale will mirror Ange Postecoglou‘s work in the transfer market at Celtic – and it will eventually see Beale’s Rangers catch up with Celtic.

Celtic sit nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with Rangers clawing the Hoops back on Sunday. Goals from Fashion Sakala and Malik Tillman enough to beat Dundee United at Tannadice. A comfortable 2-0 win.

When Postecoglou arrived at Celtic, his newly-inherited side from Neil Lennon were in need of surgery. The knife, in the form of cash, was duly used. Celtic spent big and in return, they have given themselves the foundation to build.

An easy Premiership win last season, with Postecoglou’s savvy – and knowledge of the J-League – coming in handy in the market. The Aussie gaffer has been praised for his work in the window, but Celtic have spent a fair amount, too.

Ex-Celtic midfielder Nicholas believes Rangers will now do the same – they have to. That is, if Beale and Rangers are to catch Celtic. Not this season, but over the next few. Nicholas believes Beale will mirror Postecoglou in the market.

“There was no way Eddie [Howe] wouldn’t have come up here and not spent money and Ange was the same. Beale will be the same over the coming weeks,” Nicholas wrote in his Daily Express column, published on Monday evening.

“He will want a bit more money in this window, then the next one and then more again in the one after that. He will end up doing what Ange has done and will go down the exact same route,” Nicholas added, on Beale and Rangers.

If Beale is to start to claw Celtic back, in the transfer window, then he will need cash to spend. Rangers are some way off Celtic both in terms of squad depth, quality and perhaps, finances at the moment. But, they have the lure.

Rangers need to close the gap. The only way they do that is by improving Beale’s playing squad. Todd Cantwell and Tom Davies are names that Beale has commented on – and they certainly improve the team. Time will tell.
