Leeds’ Hadi Sacko and Kyle Bartley
In a repeat fixture of a Championship clash from one week earlier, Leeds United host Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road – this time in the third round of the EFL Cup.
Former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas has told SkySports he expects Leeds to win this game 2-0, and progress to the next stage.
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates after scoring their second goal
The Whites edged the previous week’s encounter 2-1, with goals from Chris Wood and Kyle Bartley.
Nicholas said: “Garry Monk looked close to the end but suddenly they’ve got a couple of results and people are starting to believe again.
“It feels like they are improving, with Abel Hernandez providing the creativity behind their main threat Chris Wood.”
Hernandez and Wood scored the goals at the weekend as Leeds won 2-0 away to Cardiff City, and this evening represents a chance to win three on the bounce.
Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle
Blackburn meanwhile won their first game of the season on Saturday, beating Rotherham United 4-2, easing the pressure on manager Owen Coyle, and lifting the confidence of the players.
Both teams are expected to rotate their squads, making this evening a little harder to predict. There will be no replays, meaning if the game is a draw it will go to extra time, and if needed, penalties.
