The Sky Sports pundit wasn’t happy with the Celtic man’s comments.
Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that Celtic’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday is simply a “damage-limitation exercise”.
Brendan Rodgers’s side travel to Germany hoping to kick on from their excellent 3-0 win at Anderlecht in the last round of fixtures.
But coming away from Bayern with a result is a hell of a lot more difficult for Celtic than it was in Belgium and the Bundesliga giants are a resurgent force under new boss Jupp Heynckes.
Heynckes’s side won 5-0 on the weekend in a show of force which can’t have enthused the Hoops, though goalkeeper Craig Gordon issued an up-and-at-them plea to his team-mates as they try to upset the odds and get a result.
Nichoals was a bit miffed by the Scot’s comments about challenging the Bavarians and believes the 34-year-old should “keep quiet” rather than give Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski the added incentive of humiliating Celtic.
“Well this is my game on Soccer Special and not one I’m hopeful about given their only recent decent display in the league was against Rangers, while their performance wasn’t actually that good against Anderlecht,” he told Sky Sports.
“Craig Gordon came out and said ‘we’re ready to challenge Bayern Munich’ and I just thought ‘keep quiet’. He should hope the Bayern players haven’t heard that because the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller don’t need any more motivation.
“Jupp Heynckes has returned and will be saying ‘let’s put these to the sword and take second place out of doubt ahead of the trip to Glasgow’.
“Celtic can’t change their style and the team has never recovered from their loss to PSG, when they passed the ball as badly as I’ve seen them.
“They also have defensive fitness concerns and they’ll try to sit in with their backs to the wall in what will inevitably be a damage-limitation exercise.”
