Charlie Nicholas praised Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday afternoon (2:16pm, February 16, 2019) for giving the players time off.

Due to the FA Cup action this past weekend, Leeds were not in action, having been knocked out earlier in the competition.

The West Yorkshire outfit’s last game was against Swansea City at Elland Road in the Championship last Wednesday evening, and they are back in action this coming Saturday when they take on Bolton Wanderers at home in the league.

Following the match against Swansea, Bielsa told BBC Sport that the players will be given time off four days – from Thursday until Sunday.

Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Nicholas, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has praised Bielsa for giving his players rest amid the rigours of the Championship.

Nicholas said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday afternoon (2:16pm, February 16, 2019): “This is an experienced guy who has seen the big picture. They had to give them that little facility to get away and recharge the batteries, if you like.”

Smart decision

Given how demanding Bielsa is and his tough training regime, it was indeed a smart decision of the Leeds head coach to give his players four days of rest.

The players will have recharged their batteries during this period, and will have returned to training fresh and looking forward to their next match.

Leeds are third in the Championship table at the moment with 61 points from 32 matches, two points behind leaders Norwich City with a game in hand.
