Celtic take on Rosenborg in the Champions League this evening.

Pundit Charlie Nicholas has told The Express that he thinks Celtic will beat Rosenborg ‘by at least a couple of goals’ in their Champions League qualifying tie.

Celtic are back in Champions League action this evening as they host Rosenborg in the first leg of their qualifying tie, as Brendan Rodgers again looks to reach the group stages of the competition.

Rodgers oversaw a comfortable victory over Linfield in the last round, and he will be hoping for a similarly painless passage through to the next round as Rosenborg travel to Glasgow.

The Tippeligaen champions, managed by Kare Ingebrigtsen, will be looking to reach the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2007 and have some players that Celtic must keep tabs on.

Ex-Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner may grab the headlines, but the likes of Anders Konradsen, Yann-Erik de Lanlay, Milan Jevtovic and Mushaga Bakenga can all cause problems to an injury-hit Celtic defence.

Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata will both miss tonight’s first leg, which may force Brendan Rodgers to use Kristoffer Ajer at centre back, whilst striker Moussa Dembele could miss out through injury and Leigh Griffiths is suspended.

Ahead of the game, former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas has offered his view on the game, telling The Express that he is predicting a comfortable Celtic victory over two legs.

Nicholas feels that Rosenborg are no better than Dundalk, the team they beat in the last round, and believes that Celtic will ‘progress quite easily’ despite the injury problems heading into tonight’s first leg.

“I watched Dundalk against Rosenborg and I would say that both are bog-standard teams.,” said Nicholas. “Rosenborg weren’t that much better than Dundalk. If Celtic can move the ball quickly then I think they will progress quite easily.”

“Rosenborg will sit in and be awkward to beat but I can see Celtic winning the tie by at least a couple of goals,” he added.
