McGregor was Gerrard’s first signing after becoming Rangers manager, and has attracted plaudits from ex-Celtic man Nicholas.

Former Celtic player Charlie Nicholas has heaped huge praise on Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor in his Daily Star column, claiming he is the difference between the Gers securing their place in the Europa League play-off.
During Gerrard’s first seven games in charge, McGregor has kept four clean sheets – two against FK Shkupi, one against NK Osijek and then another in his last game during Rangers’ 2-0 win over St. Mirren.
Rangers have only conceded three goals in total during Gerrard’s reign, as the former Liverpool and England captain has tightened the ship. The signing of McGregor has certainly helped that, along with Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
Nicholas bought McGregor’s house in Glasgow some years back, and claimed that he is a much tidier goalkeeper than a resident after having to perform a makeover to the property. Nicholas reckons the stopper is Rangers’ best signing.
“Allan McGregor is a far tidier keeper than he was a Glasgow West End resident,” Nicholas said. “A few years back I bought the Rangers goalkeeper’s house from him and had to give it bit of a makeover!
“But it’s no surprise his return ‘home’ to Rangers has been a success. Any good team is built on strong foundations with a goalie and centre-half key to success.
“Connor Goldson has done well, but McGregor has been outstanding and with him in nets Rangers have a good chance of making progress to the Europa League play-off round this week.”

McGregor has stolen the number on spot ahead of Wes Foderingham, who has plummeted to third-choice goalkeeper behind Jak Alnwick with the latter being used on the bench in five of Gerrard’s seven games.
Rangers will be desperate to hold on to their 3-1 lead over Maribor in Slovenia on Thursday night, which was secured thanks to goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Lassana Coulibaly.
Progress into the Europa League play-off round will see Rangers face either Russian side FC UFA or a reunion with Progres Niederkorn, who knocked Rangers out at the first qualifying hurdle last term.
