Glasgow Rangers appointed the Portuguese in the hope that he can bring success back to Ibrox.

Speaking to Sky Sports for an exclusive interview, broadcast at 17:12 on Monday March 13th, Celtic legend Charlie Nicholas offered a stark warning for new Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha, suggesting that his real test will be the Scottish Cup semi final clash against the Hoops.

The Old Firm giants met at Celtic Park yesterday, with the Portuguese watching from the stands, and he would have been impressed with what he saw, as the Gers earned a hard-fought point against the league leaders.

With 33 points separating the two sides, however, and the gulf in class painfully apparent for all to see, Caixinha really does have his work cut-out if he is to bring the glory days back to Ibrox.

And Nicholas, who scored 85 league goals for Celtic over the course of two separate spells with the club, didn’t hold back when discussing Rangers’ hopes of success under their new manager, when speaking to Sky Sports:

“Give him time to bed in, and then he might get a reality check. And the reality check my friend, is welcome to the Scottish Premiership, it’s not easy, it’s very difficult. You’re waving now and you’re smiling now. He’s got a lot to do, and in three or four weeks when he’s got the big semi final against Celtic – that will be his test.”

With no experience in Scottish football, Caixinha seems like a risky appointment from the Ibrox hierarchy, but only time will tell if it will turn out to be an inspired one or not.
