Patrick Roberts is currently on loan at Celtic from Manchester City.
Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 7th December, that he believes Brendan Rodgers may have seen a lack of commitment in Patrick Roberts so far at Celtic.
Roberts has often been left out of Celtic’s starting line-up this season, despite possessing a great amount of talent.
The youngster proved just how dangerous he could be by putting in a brilliant display against Manchester City in the Champions League last night.
Roberts is actually on loan at Celtic from City, and he showed his parent club what he could do at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.
Roberts scored Celtic’s goal in the match, which finished as a 1-1 draw, with a wonderful piece of individual skill.
However, Nicholas has questioned Roberts’ attitude – as he has not become a permanent member of Celtic’s starting line-up.
“Brendan has left him out the team quite a lot. There must be a reason for that,” Nicholas said. “Maybe he’s not seen enough desire or commitment.”
Roberts is set to return to City at the end of the season, and his display last night has led to suggestions that the 19-year-old could become part of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.
However, Nicholas believes that Roberts is more likely to be sent out on loan again, when his temporary spell at Celtic comes to an end.
“I doubt it,” Nicholas said, when asked whether Roberts will become a starter at City. “I think he left Fulham too early. I don’t see him starting. He may have to go on loan yet again.”
