Charlie Nicholas says Everton will never make a move for Diego Costa.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes that Everton manager Ronald Koeman will not be “interested in a conversation” with Diego Costa, let alone securing a deal for him.
The 28-year-old Spain international has no intention of returning to Stamford Bridge, according to the Telegraph. Rather, he is pushing for a move to Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish club is under a transfer embargo, and as a result cannot sign Costa at the moment. Everton are reportedly looking to exploit that opportunity, and want to land the Spain international on a short-term deal.
Koeman has poured oil to the fire by hinting that he could be interested in signing the striker, if he is available on loan.
Nicholas has criticised Costa’s attitude, saying “this guy has a history”. He says that Costa was a part of the team that got rid of Jose Mourinho, and believes that “he is playing a game” to secure a move away from the Bridge.
The Sky Sports pundit adds that Costa is a volatile figure, and there will be a clash of personalities with Koeman, should he join Everton.
“Koeman would be arguing and fighting with him in 30 minutes. It would be a clash of personalities immediately. Koeman doesn’t stand for anything like that,” said Nicholas to Sky Sports.
“Costa has isolated himself and I’m actually glad in a way that he has done this. He has made everything clear that he wants to go to Atletico Madrid but six months ago, I wanted to go to China.
“There’s no way someone like Koeman would be interested in a conversation with Costa, never mind a deal.”
