Marco Silva’s Everton suffered a defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has mocked the ‘masterplan’ of Everton manager Marco Silva following his side’s 3-1 defeat [BBC Sport] against Wolves on Saturday at Goodison Park.
The former Arsenal striker claimed that 15 minutes before time, Silva sat with his staff to discuss his so-called ‘masterplan’ as he claimed even the cat that halted play during the game can ‘identify’ the club’s problems.
Recently promoted Wolves looked a cut above the Merseyside club, who continued to showcase their defensive frailties, particularly from set-piece situations.
After the match, Nicholas pointed towards the current problems at Goodison Park and seemingly questioned Silva’s tactics and planning.
“He [Silva] sat down with about 15 minutes to go with his staff,” Nicholas told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports on 02/02/2019.
“[It was] the usual covering of the mouth to try and keep it as if we have a masterplan. We don’t want anyone to know. And you thought, really?
“Even the cat that came on and added seven minutes to the game can even identify [the problems]. This has got no balance in the team at all.”
Despite that defeat, Everton are still sitting in the Premier League’s top 10, but Silva, who was appointed manager in the summer, is coming under scrutiny for recent performances and results.
The Toffees are out of both domestic cup competitions, with Championship side Millwall knocking them out of the FA Cup in January.
The up and coming fixtures don’t get easier for Silva because his team will host champions Manchester City on Wednesday before travelling to high-flying Watford three days later.
A failure to pick up any points in those matches could see Everton fall into 12th place depending on how other results go against them.
