Graeme Murty is the Glasgow Rangers manager and will remain in charge of the Ibrox club until the end of the season.
Rangers will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Ayr United away from home in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.
Ian McCall’s side are in Scottish League One at the moment and will be underdogs for the tie even though they are at home.
Former Celtic forward Nicholas, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has suggested that Murty’s job at Rangers could be on the line if they lose the tie.
Nicholas wrote in The Express: “Graeme Murty’s future at Rangers could be on the line if they lose to Ayr United in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
“People are up in arms because they lost to Hibs, but I reckons Murty has the Gers on the right lines.”
Wrong claim
Murty has been given the Rangers managerial role until the end of the season, and it is hard to see the Gers’ board dismiss him anytime soon.
True, the 43-year-old’s position at Ibrox will be considered in the summer of 2018, but one bad result in the Scottish Cup is not going to affect club chairman Dave King’s decision.
What Rangers will value more than anything else is the team finishing second in the Scottish Premiership, and if Murty is able to deliver that, then he could get the managerial role on a permanent basis.
