Tottenham Hotspur have the fourth best defensive record in the Premier League.
Charlie Nicholas has taken aim at Tottenham Hotspur’s defence on Sky Sports’ website.
The Soccer Saturday pundit feels that Tottenham’s position in the top four could come under threat over the remainder of the season, with their injury problems mounting.
Spurs are currently without Heung Min Son, who is on international duty, while Harry Kane and Dele Alli are both set for lengthy spells on the sidelines.
And Nicholas feels that Tottenham’s vulnerabilities at the back could be exposed.
“There is a limit to what Spurs have got. They look average and weak defensively,” he said.
“Whatever cushion they think they need may not be enough. The gap between them is not big enough and like I said they are vulnerable in attack and defence so they have got some work to do to escape getting dragged into that top-four race.”
Tottenham have conceded more goals than any other side in the top four, but Nicholas’ assessment seems harsh.
Pochettino’s men have let in 23 goals in their 23 Premier League games so far this season, giving them the fourth best defensive record in the division.
Tottenham also have built up a seven point advantage over fifth placed Arsenal as they look to retain their place in the Champions League qualification spots.
Spurs are next in action tomorrow evening when they take on Chelsea in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.
