Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has backed Liverpool to beat Tottenham Hotspur when the two meet in the EFL Cup this week.
Liverpool host their Premier League rivals in the last sixteen round of the competition at Anfield on Tuesday evening.
They have both enjoyed strong starts to the campaign, with the Reds joint top of the Premier League table and Mauricio Pochettino’s team currently sitting in fifth just a point behind.
They have already met earlier in the season, playing out a fascinating 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

It makes this game extremely hard to predict but Nicholas has gone for a victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
“You know what, I know we’re all excited about the Manchester derby because of all that’s going on there, but this is the best footballing game for me,” he told Sky Sports.
“I’m finding this a tough one to call and it could go either way, but I’m going for Liverpool on home advantage.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how both teams approach this game given their current situation in the league.
Both are eyeing title challenges this season and in truth, this competition is probably something of an unwelcome distraction for both of them.
They are likely to field rotated teams for the game, although Nicholas has questioned whether Jurgen Klopp will be willing to sacrifice his system to get fringe players into his team.
“I’ll be interested to see what team Jurgen Klopp goes for. Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi need a game but will he jeopardise the system to incorporate them?” he added.
