Toby Alderweireld has yet to sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld recently made some very encouraging comments to Sky Sports.
The Belgium international said that Spurs are going in the right direction and have progressed well over the past two seasons.
The 28-year-old also pointed out that the North London outfit are challenging for the Premier League title and doing well in the Champions League.
Alderweireld’s comments underline the progress that Tottenham have made under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
There can be no denial that despite the fact that Spurs will not win the Premier League this season, they have done well over the past three or four seasons.
Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas, though, has asked a question of Alderweireld following his comments.
Nicholas, who was on the books of Spurs’ bitter North London rivals Arsenal from 1983 until 1988 and now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has asked why the Belgian is not signing a new contract despite stating that Tottenham are going in the right direction.
According to The Guardian, Alderweireld’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2019, and the defender, who is claimed to earn £50,000 per week, has yet to sign a new deal.
Nicholas said about Alderweireld on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Premier League last Saturday afternoon (1:18pm, January 27, 2018): “I read Alderweireld this week, who is close to comeback, and he was saying they are going in the right direction. So why is it taking so long for him to pen his new offer that he was getting?”
