Everton are reportedly interested in bringing Jack Wilshere in at the end of his Arsenal contract.

Charlie Nicholas has told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (broadcast on 17th March 2018; 14:44) that he cannot see Jack Wilshere fitting into the Everton side while Sam Allardyce is in charge at Goodison Park.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror, the Toffees are hoping that they will be able to land Wilshere on a free when his Arsenal deal expires at the end of the season, and are willing to offer the Englishman a better contract than the one currently on the table at the Emirates.

With Wilshere looking to be back somewhere near his best this season, it appears to be a potentially brilliant move from the Toffees. However, Nicholas has suggested that Everton may not be the right team for the 26-year-old to thrive in.

“No I don’t personally. I don’t see it,” he told Soccer Saturday, when asked whether he could see Wilshere moving to Merseyside.

“I think it’s too much about the shape at Everton. I think, if Sam is there [next season], and these rumours are still sparking about that he might not be there next season, so I’m identifying that he will be, he’ll be looking for a bit more. Within that, you’ve got Sigurdsson who’ll play and I don’t think it fits yet for Jack Wilshere within how Sam would shape it.

“I can understand why they’d be interested and then they can maybe adapt to it if that was the case. No disrespect but this is needing a lot of building done.”

“It doesn’t look a decent fit for me for Jack Wilshere, not the way I see it anyway,” he went on to add.

While Nicholas cannot currently see Wilshere being a good fit for the Toffees, it could certainly be argued that, if they manage to get a deal done and the midfielder finds his best form at Goodison, he is the kind of player that Allardyce could build the team around.

And while it would be a gamble to build a team around Wilshere given his less than reliable record with injuries in previous years – though he has already made 31 appearances this term – Everton have not shown the kind of quality this term, especially in the middle of the park, that would suggest that a new talisman would not be a very welcome addition.
