Rangers already have a Liverpool player on-loan in winger Ryan Kent.

Divock Origi of Liverpool walks on the pitch after the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on May 12, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Charlie Nicholas has claimed that he understands why Liverpool were interested in Liverpool striker Divock Origi as he lauded him for his recent displays.

The Belgian striker netted a brace last Tuesday to help his team overturn a three-goal deficit to knock Barcelona out of the semi-finals of the Champions League in the most dramatic of fashions.

Origi hasn’t been a regular starter at Anfield this season, but when he has been called up, he has most of the time delivered the goods for his team.

Speaking to Soccer Special on Sky Sports News (12/05/2019 at 12:25 pm), Nicholas seemingly suggested that Rangers were interested in the services of Origi as he spoke about how difficult the striker has found it to break into Liverpool’s starting XI.

“It has been dramatic goals he has got, in the derby also,” Nicholas told Soccer Special. “He’s a lad who doesn’t look fit enough to be in the team and threaten that position and at times even Sturridge has come on before him or picked before him.

“He’s obviously not doing enough [to start for Liverpool]. I know it’s tough to get into this front three of Liverpool’s when they are all fit.

“But, to be fair to him, there was talk last summer, he would be on loan. There was talk about Rangers and several different clubs that are interested in him. And I can understand why. But he’s come in [of late] and played his part.”

When fully fit and injury free, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have been Jurgen Klopp’s preferred attacking trio.

But in recent weeks, Brazil international Firmino has been on the sidelines with an injury, whilst Salah missed Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Barcelona.

As a result, it opened the door for Origi to earn some more game time and he didn’t disappoint as he netted two crucial goals in that epic turnaround in the Champions League.
