Charlie Mulgrew left Celtic for Blackburn Rovers in the summer after six seasons with the Hoops.
Charlie Mulgrew has suggested that his decision to leave Celtic in the summer was partially down to the monotony of playing for the Hoops towards the end of his second spell, the Sunday Post reports.
Mulgrew had been a stalwart of the Bhoys squad for his first four seasons back at Parkhead following his move from Aberdeen in 2010. However, his final two years were somewhat blighted by injury and he ultimately left for Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the summer.

And while the 30-year-old suggested that his decision was not influenced by anything to do with Celtic as a club, he hinted that their dominance left him struggling for motivation.
“It was a difficult one, but the monotony just got to me,” he said, as reported by the Sunday Post.
“It was nothing to do with Celtic because it’s a massive club. It was more the environment I was playing in, and the need for a change away from the Scottish domestic game.
“To get the best out of myself, I felt I needed to test myself elsewhere. I wanted to prove to myself – and to other people – that I could play down in England.”

In fairness to Mulgrew, it is not difficult to blame him for becoming complacent. Celtic won the title in the previous five seasons before his departure, and they were rarely pushed in the race during that time.
And perhaps it was because of sensing that he was reaching an age where he may not be given many more chances to make a move away that would appeal to him that he decided to take the chance to move elsewhere when a switch to Ewood Park was put on the table.
