New Blackburn Rovers signing Charlie Mulgrew has told the Lancashire Telegraph the Championship club’s facilities are better than those of previous employers, Celtic.

Mulgrew signed a three-year deal at Ewood Park on the final day of the summer transfer window after his Bhoys contract expired on June 30.

The Glaswegian had been at Parkhead for the past six seasons – winning the Scottish Premiership title in all but one of those – and says he is honoured to have played for both clubs.

“Celtic is a huge club but what I’ve seen of Blackburn so far it’s also a huge club with great facilities and ambition,” Mulgrew told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Celtic is a chapter in my life that’s gone now. It was one I really enjoyed it, and one I was thankful for, but my focus is here and I’m really looking forward to getting going.

“It’s a great club and I want to be part of it going forward.

“This training facility is better than Celtic’s from what I’ve seen. Celtic have good facilities but this is one of the top ones about.

“They are different clubs which I’m delighted and honoured to have had the chance to play for.”

Mulgrew finds Blackburn rooted to the bottom of England’s second tier, four years after they dropped out of the Premier League – a division they won in 1995.

Despite falling on hard times, in terms of both stature and facilities at least Rovers remain among the country’s biggest clubs.

Mulgrew, who is set to build up his fitness in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday, could make his debut at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

The 30-year-old, who has also played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aberdeen, has 24 caps for Scotland.
