Leeds United defender Liam Cooper recently played his first game for Scotland.
Leeds United central defender Liam Cooper made his international debut for Scotland last week.
Cooper was in action for Scotland in their European Championship Qualifying Group I game against Russia at Hampden Park in Glasgow last Friday evening.
The 28-year-old central defender started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, and his defensive partner in the game, Charlie Mulgrew, was impressed.
Mulgrew, now on loan at Wigan Athletic from Blackburn Rovers, has been playing for Scotland since 2012 and won the league title five times in Scotland with Celtic.
Mulgrew told The Scottish Sun about playing with Cooper: “It was the first time we have played together and it was good to be beside Liam. He has done well for Leeds and it is good he is in the squad.”
Encouraging debut performance
Cooper played well on his international debut for Scotland, and the 28-year-old showed what he is capable of and what he can bring to the team.
The former Hull City and Chestefield defender looked strong at the back and did not shy away from challenges.
Mulgrew is a good defender, and the former Celtic star and Cooper could form a strong partnership at the heart of the Scotland defence.
