Glen Kamara moved to Ibrox for £50k in January and he shone as Rangers beat Old Firm rivals and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic on Sunday.

Glen Kamara of Rangers celebrates at the final whistle during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Charlie Miller believes Glen Kamara is well placed to make a huge impact in his first full season at Rangers after an outstanding performance in the Old Firm derby against Celtic, speaking to the Daily Record.

Kamara joined Rangers for just £50,000 in January and, at the time, there were plenty of doubts about whether the Finland international was good enough to make the grade at Ibrox. Fans of his former club, Dundee, were more than happy to see the 23-year-old leave Dens Park after some laboured performances in the first half of the season.

But Kamara has looked like a player reborn since moving to Glasgow.

His intelligent, elegant approach in the centre of the park has made him a key player under Steven Gerrard and his performance in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Celtic was truly outstanding.

And Miller, who played for The Gers between 1993 and 1999, believes his former side have unearthed a player with real potential.

“Kamara has done really well and looks a good player. I admit he’s done better than I expected having settled in so quickly,” the former Scotland international said.

“The signing looks a good one and I feel he’ll be like a new signing again when next season starts.

Glen Kamara of Rangers is tackled by Scott Brown of Celtic during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“He will have settled in even better, he’ll have had a full pre-season working the Rangers way and getting more and more into the mould of what Steven Gerrard wants from him.

“Kamara is still relatively young at 23 so you would have to say his best years are all ahead of him and that bodes well for Rangers.”

Kamara has certainly benefited from playing and training alongside Steven Davis, the former Ibrox captain who returned in January after falling out of favour at Southampton.

The challenge now is for the former Arsenal youngster to build on this impressive start and establish himself as one of the Premiership’s very best.
