Southampton striker is glad to be back playing.
Southampton played their first pre-season match yesterday against Schalke.
The game ended in a 3-3 draw in China and it was the ideal way for Mark Hughes’ side to get back into action, playing against top flight opposition.
Nathan Redmond, Harrison Reed and Jake Hesketh were on target for Southampton.
Charlie Austin provided the assist for Redmon’d goal, before being substituted off at half-time as the Saints rotated the team.
Austin commented on Twitter after the draw, expressing his delight to be back.
He also noted the heat the game was played in, adding that he felt it was important for the team’s fitness to play in warm conditions.
Austin, 28, made only 10 Premier League starts last season, plus 14 appearances from the bench.
He scored seven goals in those games, with no assists, so he will feel good for setting a goal up even just in a friendly match.
