Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam suggests that Everton should have moved for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, who was reportedly wanted by Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to BBC Sport, Liverpool wanted to sign Van Dijk from Premier League rivals Southampton
The Netherlands international defender also put in a transfer request at the Saints, as reported by The Guardian in August.
Former Liverpool midfielder Adam has suggested that Everton should have made a move for ex-Celtic centre-back Van Dijk.

Former Rangers midfielder Adam joined Stoke from Liverpool in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4 million.
Adam said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC 5 live Sport on Monday evening (7pm, October 2, 2017): “Go and try and get Van Dijk. If they feel they have money and they are good enough, then go and chase a Van Dijk like Liverpool can.”

Van Dijk is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League, and the Dutchman would have been a good signing for Everton in the summer transfer window.
With Ashley Williams not in great form at the moment, perhaps the Toffees should try to sign the Dutchman in the January transfer window.
