Steven Gerrard will be aiming to bring some silverware to Rangers next season.
Former Premier League player Charlie Adam has revealed that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told him that he has ‘enjoyed’ his time at Ibrox.
Midfielder Adam stated that Gerrard’s leadership qualities on the touchline, rather than on the pitch, are different now because as a manager he is the ‘face of the whole group’.
In his debut campaign in the dugout, Gerrard has guided the Light Blues to second place in the Scottish Premiership, but he failed to deliver a trophy.
Free agent Adam stated that Gerrard can cope with the pressures on him at Ibrox because he has had to deal with it from a very young age.
“Speaking to Steven, he has enjoyed it,” Adam told Herald Scotland. “He’s had pressure on him since he was 16 years of age. He’s been a leader for a number of years so he understands that. Management is different because you are the face of the whole group.
“At times he has had to rally the lads and he has also been very honest. If you’re not at your best, you won’t play and that’s the standards that exist at a big club and you have to accept that.”
No-one will be more disappointed than Gerrard that he failed to win a trophy in his first season in charge of Rangers, but he’ll be looking to put that right next term.
The style of play he has implemented at the club has been forward-thinking and easy on the eye. It is now a case of taking that next step and producing the goods.
There is no doubt that the Scottish Premiership will be top of Gerrard’s agenda when the season kicks off next season, but for now, he’ll be looking to end the current campaign on a positive note. His team are on a five-match winning run heading into their Old Firm match against Celtic this Sunday.
