Stoke City midfielder is confident that Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong could play in the Premier League at some point.

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam says that the Premier League is a more attractive destination for foreign players, and that the number of Scottish players joining the league is low.

Adam says that the Premier League is “evolving” all the time, and getting “bigger” with every passing year, which makes it difficult for Scottish players to get into big clubs.

The former Liverpool midfielder reckons that the foreign market offers more quality players to the Premier League right now.

In that context, he says that he has “no doubt” that Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong could come down and play in the Premier League.

“I’ve no doubt Stuart Armstrong at Celtic, for example, could come down and play in the Premier League,” said Adam as quoted by The Sunday Mail (printed edition; press reader). “But the English clubs don’t want to do it at the moment.”

The 25-year-old midfielder, who is integral to Brendan Rodgers’ system at Celtic, was reportedly linked with a move to Southampton and Swansea City this summer.

However, he chose to stay on with the Glasgow club instead. Adam believes that at some point he could join the Premier League.

Adam has voiced concern that young Scottish players who are making the move to the Premier League are not getting enough exposure. Rather than sticking with a Scottish player, clubs are giving more opportunities to foreign players.
