Rangers have brought Jermain Defoe to Ibrox, with Steven Davis to come.

Ex-Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has told The Scottish Sun that he understands the move for Steven Davis – and has taken to Twitter to hail signing Jermain Defoe.

The Gers went into January sitting joint-top of the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, and have set about strengthening for now and for the future..

Rangers confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara and Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones have both signed pre-contract agreements with the club, meaning they will start their Ibrox careers in the summer.

Steven Gerrard is also getting in players for a title tilt in the second half of the season, with Rangers announcing today that Bournemouth striker Defoe has arrived on loan.

After days of speculation, the 36-year-old goalscorer has penned an 18-month loan deal with the Gers, reuniting with his former England teammate Gerrard at Ibrox.

Rangers may have another incoming soon, as the Daily Mail report that Southampton midfielder Steven Davis is expected to join before Tuesday.

Davis is another experienced player who could help Rangers win the title, and ex-Rangers ace Adam has now suggested that Davis should help striker Alfredo Morelos by being a link player between midfielder and attack.

“It absolutely makes sense to me. Davo is still a top player, he knows the club and has the experience,” said Adam. “That’s something you’re always looking for and he can play in that No 10 position, linking the play between Alfredo Morelos and the midfield. You need to get him on the ball to be effective, but for Rangers it’s a good piece of business if they get it done,” he added.

Adam has also taken to Twitter to celebrate Defoe’s signature, with Gerrard’s move clearly going down well with the Stoke City man.
