Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers have progressed to the Europa League playoff round, and Stoke City midfielder and reported summer Ibrox target, Charlie Adam, has been impressed, as shown in his post on social networking site Twitter.
Ibrox club Rangers played out a goalless draw with NK Maribor away from home in the second leg of their Europa League qualifying third round on Thursday evening.
Having won the first leg of the tie 3-1 at Ibrox last week, Gerrard’s Gers have now booked their place in the Europa League playoff round courtesy of a goalless draw in the second leg.
Stoke midfielder Adam, who started his professional club football career at Rangers and was on the books of the Gers from 2003 until 2009, was impressed with the performance of Gerrard’s team on Thursday evening.
The 32-year-old Scotland international midfielder – who joined Stoke from Liverpool in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £4 million – has been linked with a move to Rangers in the summer transfer window.
According to The Telegraph, Rangers showed interest in securing the services of Adam earlier this summer, but the chances of the Gers signing him from Championship club Stoke now are claimed to be remote.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old striker Ryan Hardie – currently on loan at Livingston from Rangers – and 22-year-old goalkeeper Liam Kelly – who moved to Livingston permanently from the Gers this summer – were impressed with the performance of goalkeeper Allan McGregor for Gerrard’s team against Maribor.
