Rangers are appointing Ross Wilson as sporting director after he left his role at Southampton.

BBC Sport reported Rangers see Wilson as integral to their future success.

Wilson replaces Mark Allen, who stepped down from his role last month.

Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has backed the move, posting on Twitter.

Wilson made his name with Huddersfield, masterminding recruitment which led to their promotion to the Premier League.

His task at Rangers will be to ensure both sustainable success long term, and to support their title challenge this season.

Rangers currently top the Premiership table as they look to end Celtic’s run of dominance at the top of Scottish football.

The appointment of Wilson is a statement of intent, putting a structure in place to ensure they are not dependent on manager Steven Gerrard.
