Rangers are closing in on a deal to sign veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam believes the imminent signing of veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor could be the start of a “rebuild” at Ibrox.
The 36-year-old is reportedly set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Rangers, six years after leaving the club to join Besiktas as the Gers were forced to start again in the fourth tier of Scottish football.
BBC Sport confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the Hull City stopper had agreed terms with Rangers, as his current contract at the KCOM Stadium is set to expire in just over two months’ time.
Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam reacted to McGregor’s imminent move, stating that he hopes both parties can complete such a deal which will see McGregor join the Gers this summer.
After making his debut in 2002 for the Gers, McGregor went on to keep an impressive 115 clean sheets in 250 league and cup encounters for the Scottish giants.
Rangers will be hoping that the signing of their former star will bolster their defence as they look to put up more of a title challenge to Celtic than this time around, with 10 points separating the sides ahead of Sunday’s derby.
As Adam says, McGregor has indeed been in fantastic form this season, missing just one Championship fixture for Nigel Adkins’ Hull who have confirmed their second-tier status for another season.
