Stoke City’s Charlie Adam comments on the incidents during the Aston Villa game at the weekend.
Mateusz Klich scored for the West Yorkshire outfit under controversial circumstances on 72 minutes during the Championship match between Leeds and Villa at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
Tyler Roberts kept the ball in play despite appearing to be ready to put it out for a throw-in following an injury to Jonathan Kodjia, and then released Klich to score.
Subsequently, there were confrontations between the two sets of players, and Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi was sent off.
Leeds allowed Villa to score from kickoff under the instructions of head coach Marcelo Bielsa, with Albert Adomah tucking the ball in.
Replays appeared to show that El Ghazi was wrongly dismissed for an alleged elbow on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford, who seemed to have simulated his fall.
Adam has suggested that 31-year-old Elmohamady, who can operate as midfielder, right-back or wing-back, should have played to the whistle and should have played his part in stopping Klich from scoring.
The Scotland international midfielder has also backed Villa to get the better of West Bromwich Albion should the two sides face each other in the Championship playoff semi-finals this season.
Adam said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 on Monday evening (7:56pm, April 29, 2019): “Elmohamady should try and tackle the winger, but he allows him just to come and run into the box.”
The Stoke midfielder added: “West Brom have gone under the radar, they have done their business, the manager has come in and steadied the ship after an incredible sacking, but I fancy Villa.”
