Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam comments on Chris Wood’s move from Elland Road outfit Leeds United to Burnley in the summer transfer window.
Chris Wood was one of the best players for Leeds United last season and was the top scorer in the Championship.
The 25-year-old striker scored as many as 27 goals in 41 Championship starts for Leeds during the 2016-17 campaign, providing four assists in the process.
The performances of the New Zealand international saw him earn the move to Burnley in the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
According to BBC Sport, the Clarets had to pay Leeds a transfer fee of £15 million in order to secure the services of the former Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion striker.
Wood had played in the Premier League before his move to Burnley, but the striker could not make a massive impact.
The former Leeds star, though, has done well for Sean Dyche’s side so far this season, scoring two goals in four Premier League starts.
Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has praised Wood, but the Scotland international has admitted that he had doubts over him.
Former Rangers midfielder Adam joined Stoke from Liverpool in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4 million.
“There is always doubt,” said Adam about Wood on The Monday Night Club show on BBC 5 live Sport on Monday evening (7pm, October 2, 2017).
“You can score 40, 50 goals, a 100 goals in the Championship. Everybody has that doubt: can he actually do it in the Premier League?
“He has been excellent for them. If he stays injury free, then hopefully he can get a few goals. He could be the one to keep them up.”
