Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to mount a title challenge at Ibrox.
Ex-Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has told The Sunday Post that he thinks people slamming Steven Gerrard for being ‘too honest’ are talking nonsense.
The Gers beat Kilmarnock 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, as Connor Goldson’s late winner saved Gerrard’s side from more disappointment at Rugby Park.
Rangers often dropped points from winning positions last season, and when Stephen O’Donnell scored late on, it looked like they would be doing the same again.
Goldson managed to clinch all three points though, meaning Rangers avoided an underwhelming start to the new league season after a strong pre-season campaign.
Gerrard will know that it wasn’t vintage Rangers, and he’ll be demanding better from his players, as he so often does in public.
Gerrard has never pulled any punches since becoming Rangers manager, always saying exactly what he thinks about his players and their performances.
Some feel that Gerrard is actually too honest, and needs to tone things down in public, prompting a strong response from ex-Rangers midfielder Adam.
Adam believes that honesty is vital, and anyone saying Gerrard is ‘too honest’ is talking nonsense, feeling there’s no such thing and Gerrard has always been this way even in his playing days.
“Honesty is a big thing in the game,” said Adam. “I see people criticising Steven Gerrard at the moment because he’s ‘too honest’. Nonsense. He’s not too honest. There’s no such thing. We played together at Liverpool, so I know that’s the kind of person he is. He says it how he sees it,” he added.
