Leeds United are currently sitting above Stoke City in the Championship table.

Charlie Adam has made a truly stunning claim that no more than ‘two or three’ Leeds players would get into the Stoke City XI despite the Whites being 19 points clear of the Staffordshire club.

The former Scotland midfielder admitted that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been more ‘consistent’ over the season as they currently sit in the automatic places in the Championship table.

Stoke inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the second-placed side in January [BBC Sport], with Adam playing in the middle of the park and completing the full 90 minutes.

The former Premier League player did praise the promotion-chasers for doing the ‘important’ stuff this season, but his claim about how many Leeds players would get into the Stoke side will perplex a lot of fans from Yorkshire.

“I have been sat watching a lot of games in the Championship,” Adam’s told BBC Radio 5 Live on 06/02/2019. “Even when we played Leeds, I felt ‘yes they are a good side’, but if you looked at both teams, I wouldn’t say more than two or three would get in our team.

“But they have been consistent over the season. They have picked results up and that’s the important thing – I think Leeds won four or five games on the bounce. I haven’t seen a standout team. This [promotion race] will go to the wire.”

Stoke were relegated from the Premier League last season and they started the campaign with former Derby boss Gary Rowett in the dugout – they were beaten by Leeds on the opening day of the campaign.

But last month, they parted ways with the club’s summer appointment [BBC Sport] and decided to bring in Luton’s high-flying manager Nathan Jones to push them back up the table [BBC Sport].

At this moment in time, they are sitting 15th in the second tier of English football after 30 league matches, nine points behind sixth-placed Bristol City.

Nonetheless, Leeds will travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon as they look to maintain their place in the top two, while Adam and his team will host West Brom in the evening kickoff.
